Looks like (-half-) the casting mold for a toy or candy called 'space robot'. There is a green cast on sale on Ebay with striking resemblance. Must be from the '50s or '60s by the looks of it. MSI Museum of Science & Industry Chicago Illinois might have a complete one of these.

that is a mold for a die casting machine. this is the cover half since it has no ejection system. could be for plastic or aluminum possibly. usually plastic molds are highly polished
