This is an Audi intake cam timing unit also know as an intake cam sprocket. This fits various V6 and V8 models. See URL for models this fits. Yours appears to be an aftermarket part, not an original VW/Audi part, or it would have the VW/Audi logo stamped on it with the OEM part number.
