I would like to know what this item is exactly and what it is used in or for?

It's a ford 9-inch differential gear case, made by an aftermarket supplier for racing, much stronger than ford originals. It holds the ring-and-pinion gears that transfer the power from the driveshaft to the rear axle.

It's a Ford 9-inch DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING, manufactured by MOSER ENGINEERING in Indiana. Phone 260-726-6689 Eastern time. They are still in business, and are very big. When the differential ring-and-pinion are installed in the housing, it's called a CENTER SECTION. Web address: www.moserengineering.com
