Although I don't know what the exact application is for your part, it is the same type that is used in AWD rear ends known as an RDU. It is not a motor.

Thank you for the opinion, but I am having trouble matching up to that reference, what you seem to be referring to is a rear differential, its splined at the tip, ours is threaded, and looks quite different,
